AFCN Project – Neonlitic, 2018
Censorship. Resin sculpture, 170 × 70 × 70 cm, 2018.
The work is an oversized representation of the “Venus of Willendorf”, a prehistoric fertility amulet used by women.
The two neon lights placed in front of the artwork ironically reference the censorship imposed by Facebook on works of art.
“Neonlitic” is a project created in 2018 by the Wood Be Nice Studio and co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).
The project aims to support and promote artistic production by exploring shared cultural heritage and reinterpreting the aesthetics of the Cucuteni and Hamangia cultures. From a cultural and artistic perspective, the project seeks to incorporate ancient artistic elements and highlight the common cultural heritage and aesthetics of the Neolithic civilizations whose remains have been discovered on the territory of Romania.
